A good thermometer to measure the importance Argentina attaches to film is the considerable amount of festivals and other exhibits that take place to impel the so called “seventh art” and the business deals with other countries. As an example there is the “Pantalla Pinamar” (Pinamar Screen) that takes place since 2004 and is a meeting point of the film arts of Argentina and Europe, and also a showcase of the most recent and celebrated local output. Other festivals and very important exhibits are:
Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata (the international film festival in Mar del Plata) –the only one in the “A” category in Latin America – and the
Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Buenos Aires (BAFICI) (the international festival of independent film making of Buenos Aires)
Exhibits
El Festival Internacional de Cine Gay Lésbico Trans. de Argentina (the international festival of gay and lesbic film of Argentina)
La Noche del Cortometraje (the night of the short film), the competition among the ten best short films that have won the country’s main contests.
La Muestra Nacional de Cine Ambiental. (Argentina’s exhibit of environmental film)
El Concurso Nacional de Cortometraje y Video La Mujer y el Cine (Argentina’s short film and video contest titled “The Woman and Film”)
El Festival Internacional por la Identidad y la Diversidad Cultural "Oberá en cortos" (the international festival to foster identity and cultural diversity “Oberá in the short film”, which seeks to establish links among the countries that make up Mercosur and Argentina’s northeastern region).
