By means of an investment amounting to roughly 76 million dollars, the popular television network has selected Buenos Aires to set up a creative hub that will be providing contents and supports for all of the company products in Latin America.
Such an endeavor is part of a regionalization strategy developed by MTV Networks Latin America (MTVNLA) – a Viacom Inc unit - launched back in 2007 which has caused the company to grow significantly both at a local and pan-regional level.
This new undertaking entails an operations and capital investment comprising the creation of approximately 200 new jobs, and the hiring of a new corporate building supplied with its own studio, audio, video, IT equipment and local productions. Furthermore, it involves the outsourcing of other services and vendors in Argentina such as the ones offering administrative support, advertising, on-air talent development and events production, among others. Therefore, it is estimated that there will be investments for approximately 76 million dollars over the next five years.
The strategic details were submitted during a meeting held with the Argentine president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and MTV Networks executives: Robert Bakish, president of MTV Networks International; Pierluigi Gazzolo, President of MTV Networks Latin America; and Paula Guerra, Senior Vice-president and General Manager for MTV Networks Argentina.
As a result of this expansion process, Buenos Aires will thus turn into the Latin American creative hub for MTV, Vh1 and Nickelodeon, and will be responsible for part of the company programme production, all creative pieces shown on the TV screen and the dubbing and subtitling services provided in all of the Spanish-speaking region. The company´s digital media business will also be managed and pan-regionally supplied as from Argentina´s central region.
“We are quite pleased about the regionalization efforts we have made and the positive response they have aroused within the company”, pointed out Gazzolo. “The high quality of services and production attributed to our team in Argentina is supporting our other teams working in Mexico and Brazil, and strengthening and confirming Argentina´s potential, regarded as a highly valuable market in terms of creativity and multimedia expertise”.
As part of a second step to be taken, MTV Networks Argentina will facilitate and endorse the creative endeavors undertaken by its international peer company by setting up a Design Studio in Buenos Aires, which is to contribute towards developing and producing the MTV Networks International´s “look and feel” motto all around the world.
“Exporting Argentine creativity reaffirms our commitment aiming at creating top quality contents for our audiences”, remarked Bakish. “We trust that the increasingly significant role played by MTV Networks Argentina and the setting up of Buenos Aires´ Design Studio will exert a favourable and significant impact on Argentina´s growing entertainment industry”.
