A giant called University of Buenos Aires

It is the biggest university in the country. Public, and more than 187 years old, it offers more than 100 courses of studies in 13 schools to more than 300,000 students. Its academic and scientific prestige is well known in the world.

The Engineering School offers 11 graduate courses of studies and several postgraduate.

The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) was inaugurated in 1821, only five years after  the declaration of independence. Even though at the beginning it depended on the provincial government. In 1881 it became a national institution and became the biggest academic, cultural and scientific  center, place of formation of professionals, circulation and production of knowledge in the country.

At the beginning of the XX century it was an elite university, but later it became massive, making its prestige grow. Important Argentinean political and intellectual characters have studied in its classrooms. Furthermore, Nobel prize winners Bernardo Houssay (1947) and César Milstein (1984) in Medicine and Luis Federico Leloir (1970) in Chemistry, , studied there.

It is the most populated center of superior education in Argentina, and also in Latin America. Every year, more than 50,000 students are registered. Thanks to the policy of superior education sustained by the state, the entrance to the UBA and all other public Universities in Argentina is free and not  restricted. In other words, except in a few cases, all students who have completed secondary school can register in any of its courses of studies without paying, without entrance exams or courses and with no number limit.

Other characteristic of Argentinean public universities is the existence of freedom of lecture and lecturers competitions. This way, the autonomy of thinking and knowledge is  guaranteed, also the incorporation of skilled and qualified human resources.

Nowadays, the UBA  has  13 schools which offer 108 graduate courses of studies,  and 314 postgraduate courses. Furthermore, it manages:
