Eolic energy in Argentina

The eolic energy production in Argentina has grown remarkably due to the construction of major eolic Parks, which primarily rely on energy-rich Patagonian winds in order to generate renewable energy.

South America´s biggest wind power generator was set off in San Juan.

The eolic energy development is regarded as one of the Argentine priorities in terms of renewable energy sources. There currently exist a number of companies which, supported by the local and provincial governments, engage in the construction of huge eolic parks aiming at such parks joining the already existing facilities located in Patagonia and the Southern region of Buenos Aires. Likewise, this activity is governed by Act Nº 26.190 (National Development Scheme for the Use of Renewable Energy).

Argentina has become the ideal scenario to generate this type of renewable energy due to the suitable eolic-energy generating natural conditions- the ongoing and steady winds blowing in different country areas, mainly in the Southern Argentine region- the creation of institutions in charge of promoting this eolic energy-related actvity like the Argentine Association on Eolic Energy - (AAEE) and the Argentine Chamber of Wind Generators (for its Spanish accronym CADGE)-, and the strong investments made in eolic projects - such as the construction of the Malaspina Eolic park in the province of Chubut.

Special cases
The Limited Popular Cooperative Society of Comodoro Rivadavia eolic park–located in the Province of Chubut-, is definitely the largest in Argentina. It has recently become the first Argentine eolic energy generator—which has already joined the Argentine Wholesale Electric Power Market, and is allowed to deliver energy to consumers.
IMPSA (Pescarmona Metallurgical Industries) is an outstanding global company engaged, among other activities, in turbine designs and the construction of eolic parks. By mid 2009, it aims at setting up an eolic energy park in the Argentine northern Province of La Rioja.
The first Latin American combined-cycle power generation hub known as the Ingentis project, and consisting of an eolic park and a thermal gas-fueled plant is to be built in the Province of Chubut. This project, which is privately funded by the investments made by Emgasud, Pampa Holding and the Chubut Government, aims primarily at supplying the local market with energy.

In a series of 4 episodes, Héctor Otheguy, General Manager of INVAP tells us about the background and evolution of this Argentine company devoted to the development and design of cutting-edge complex technology systems. In this last episode, he will be addressing the issue of eolic energy development.
Mauro Soares, Business Planning Manager of Techint and President of the Wind Energy Association of the Argentine Renewable Energies Chamber also tells us what wind and solar systems are currently developed in Argentina.

The Antonio Morán park, located in the province of Chubut, has begun to supply the local wholesale market with wind-fueled electricity.
Carlos Saint James, head of the Renewable Energies Chamber (CADER) stated that Argentina is endowed with "unrivalled potential” to operate in that field. Furthermore, he emphasized that "some foreign companies have evinced an interest in investing in this type of energy".
The windmills on the roof turn breeze into energy to make it work.
The building will save energy and drinking water. As to the project, it has been designed by UBA architects.

Argentina´s scientific and profitable development
Argentina has a solar energy project in place known as PERMER (Renewable Energy Project for the Rural Market), funded by the Local Government and coordinated by the Argentine Energy Secretariat. It is an energy supply program for rural areas achieved through the deployment of solar panels. Salta, Jujuy, Santiago del Estero, Chaco, Río Negro, Neuquén and Misiones are just some of the provinces wher
Biofuels production has recorded a steady growth due to the actions taken by a large number of companies. Therefore, and in light of the worldwide renewable energy demand, it can be foretold that Argentina will definitely have a bright future as an energy exporting country.
