
The sixth stage of the competition joins the cities of San Rafael and Mendoza. At a distance of 624 km, the drivers must travel on dirty roads, rocks and sand. Encouraged by a crowd, Orly Terranova is in his home province.
The sixth stage of Dakar Rally takes place in Mendoza Province, which links the city of San Rafael with the city of Mendoza, the capital of the province. The stage´s total route is 624 kilometers, with a timed section of only 178 km due to weather conditions in the region.
The biggest obstacle that presents this stage are the 60 kilometers of dunes that drivers must go through in the first part of the trail . Competitor will have to drive with utmost concentration and not to waste time. Then the roads with rocks and earth will allow drivers to operate at higher speeds, trying to complete the stage in the shortest possible time.
The Argentine driver Orly Terranova, running in the cars category and being eleventh in the overall standings, is encouraged by a crowd as the stage is set in his home province. Moreover, so far the leaders of each category are: Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (cars), Spanish Marc Coma (motorcycles), Dutchman Gerard De Rooy (trucks), and Spanish Joan Manuel Gonzalez (quads).
