The Dakar crosses the Atacama desert

In the ninth stage of the competition, the 329 vehicles that remain in the race are about to cross the northern desert of Chile, one of the most arid in the world. The total route is 537 kilometers, 449 of which are timed.


The tours of the Dakar are characterized by their variety, dirt roads, sand and rocks are present at all stages. 

The Dakar Rally continues in Chilean territory. With the participation of 329 teams -179 aree already out of the race-, the ninth stage begins and ends at La Serena in Copiapo in the north of the trans-Andean country. The total route is the stage of 537 kilometers, with 449 special.

During the hole stage, drivers are faced with one of the biggest challenges of competition across the Atacama Desert, one of the most arid in the world. In addition to high temperatures, the runners will have to cope with a journey with countless sand dunes, which will test their resilience and ability behind the wheels.

So far, the Argentine competitor Marcos Patronelli ended up second in the overall standings in the category quadricycles. Their outstanding performances in the latter stages position him as a major candidate to win the rally. For its part, the mendocino Orly Terranova ended up in the eighth position, following a remarkable performance in one of the most competitive in the Dakar.
