The renowned Dakar Rally automobile racing competition is now moving to South America. Such an exciting rally attracting crowds year after year will include roads between Argentina and Chile as part of its new itinerary.
The Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), being the most famous rally organizer at a worldwide level confirmed that “the Dakar rally” will be run along Argentine and Chilean roads in 2009.
Even if the ultimate details are still to be worked out, this racing competition will extend over a total area covering 9000 kilometers. The Dakar race is scheduled to begin on January 3 and to finish on January 18 in Buenos Aires, and participants will run across La Pampa and Patagonia roads.
The city of Buenos Aires will be the hosting venue for the Dakar Rally departure and arrival times, and even though the final route where it is to take place has not been determined yet, the ASO director, Etienne Lavigne, pointed out that "there will be sand, since it is something typically found in the Dakar Rally. However, the competition itinerary will also extend over roads being a great novelty for this type of competition".
The Dakar Rally is regarded as one of the toughest automobile tournaments in the world. Such a competition is conceived as a resistance race rather than a conventional rally where automobiles, trucks and motorcycles compete. As regards the type of grounds where the above mentioned rally is to be run, they range from sandy, and rocky areas to those having mud and vegetation.
Enrollment is fully open and over 80% of the participants succeed in getting to the end of the rally. It is an ideal race for all adventure lovers.
