
The 2009 Dakar rally route that will take place in Argentina in January 2009 was presented in Paris.
The race starts at the Obelisco, crosses the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Rio Negro, Chubut, Neuquen, Mendoza, Catamarca, La Rioja, Cordoba, Santa Fe and ends in the city of Buenos Aires at La Rural.
Enrique Meyer, Secretary of Tourism, Patrice Clero, ASO President and Etienne Lavigne, Dakar Director and the Argentine racer Orlando Terranova who will take part of the rally were at the presentation.
According to Enrique Meyer´s declarations “the organization of this event is an extraordinary opportunity for Argentina to position itself as a universal tourist destination due to the magnitude of the impact the Rally Dakar will have in Argentina, he also thanked ASO for giving this historic opportunity to our country”.
This will be the 30th Dakar Rally and the next one will cover 9000 km between Argentina and Chile. To make sure that none of the racers has an advantage over the others, the exact routes will be published closer to the starting date.
Orlando Terranova said: “it is a great privilege and honor for me to be in Paris representing Argentina. The Secretary of Tourism has done a very good job and in January the Argentinians will be able to enjoy one of the most important sporting events in the world: The Dakar Rally”. He added that seeing his car posing for the whole world was “very moving”.
The race will start on January the 3rd and it will last 15 days. Carlos Sainz ,the Spanish pilot, the winner of the last Dakar Rally that took place in Rumania, confirmed his presence and will try to repeat his victory in this new route.
