
The most important growing wine zone of La Rioja is located in the Valles de Famatina between Macizo de Velasco and the Nevado de Fátima.
As in other provinces of the route of wine, the conditions are excellent for the wine growing, owing to the altitude of more than 1,000 meters, low humidity; light rains, average thermal amplitude.
The position of the mountainous cords avoids the first and last sun rays. The most important zone is the Valle de Chilecito. The most growing variety is Bonarda.
At the present time, the winestock of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay is being cultivated. According to the experts, the characteristics of the weather establish the production of the regional wines.
For fresh consumption, the most important are: Red Globe, Cardinal y Emperador; and for raisins, Sultanina Blanca y Arizul.
