Argentina - The producing west

We can distinguish two areas in Catamarca: the occidental and the Valle of Catamarca or oriental. In the Valle de Catamarca we can see deep, loan or sandy soils and the summer temperatures are very high while the western part is colder. 

The occidental area, the department of Tinogasta has practically a 70% of the vine growing surface. Its function is the production of grapes for a fresh consumption and for the fermentation. The locality of Tinogasta is 280 kilometers away from the capital city of Catamarca called San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca.

The most important wineries of the province are in Tinogasta, almost the 77% of the production are prepared there. Presently, Tinogasta has several “boutique” wineries with high quality wines and many of them received international prizes.
