Florida is one of the most visited destinies by the tourists who visit Buenos Aires. This pedestrian street is one of the most typical of Buenos Aires and it is the open commercial center biggest of the country.
Florida Street, eight o’clock. The trip starts at the corner of the Córdoba Avenue. The bars are crowded with tourists: two American people are drinking a bottle of wine, a group of Mexican people laughing and speak loudly on the street, a Uruguayan couple walking along the street with a boiler and the “mate” when the honk of a bus make them turn the head up.
The music pacifies the noise of the street, the Tango takes hold of the street. A voice start guiding a show in the middle of Florida Street, the people form a circle and you listen applauses and the humming of a lyric. A woman wearing a hug and boots, typical “tanguera” (a woman who dance tango) in a man’s arms, with a handsome look, start dancing the two for four rhythm.
Florida Street has its own identity, with more than 200 years of history. It was the first street in being asphalted. From the beginning of the last century, it was known by its commercial activity all over the world. In 1913, the street was asked for being declared a “pedestrian precinct” in order to increase its commercial growth.
But we don’t mention something important: The “Porteños”. They distinguish from the tourists; the fast rhythm of the native people is very notorious in contrast with the tourists. Anyway, nothing stops the “Porteños”, after an exhausting day, a cinema, a theater and a restaurant are waiting for them. Buenos Aires stays out all night
